Both PDUs and standard household power strips are designed for splitting and distributing power to multiple attached devices. They both have multiple electric power outlets and an inlet with a power cord. What are the actual differences between these two power devices? Which one is better, more stable and reliable? A Dual Feed PDU is an advanced rack PDU designed to house two PDUs together in a single chassis. The two PDUs feature the same configuration but different colors. The benefit of such a design is that you can find ‘duplicated’ PDU outlet groups and two power feeds in a single PDU.
A rack unit, also known as “U”, “RU”, or “RMU”, was created by the Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA); it is the standardized unit of measurement in IT rack enclosures. 1U rack unit refers to 1.75 inches or 44.45 mm of vertical space. The most common rack sizes are 42U & 45U, and for high density equipment you can find racks up to 47U & 52U.
